Kalin White, 19, and Myles Parish, 21, were just two kids from the bay who had known each other since 6th grade but started doing music together in 2011. Myles started off in his room messing around with the beats and raps he had created while Kalin was doing something similar things.  Eventually Myles contacted Kalin in hopes of making music together, resulting in their first song, More Than Friends.

chasing dreams

In the July of 2012, Kalin and Myles were able to release their first EP called Chasing Dreams,  introducing themselves to the worlds with a R&B, Hip Hop, and Pop sound. In addition to there EP they have a YouTube channel with both original works and  popular song covers with their own personal flare.

Even though the duo remains unsigned they have created a name for themselves by performing in events, Teen Hoot in Nashville for upcoming YouTube artists, and making the Top 5 for iHeartRadio’s Rising Star contest. Thus allowing them to open up for iHeartRadio Music Festival last year. Now they embark on their own tour hitting up ten cities, east coast to west coast, joining musical artists Austin Mahone and Midnight Red for a few of the concert dates.

Over the past few weeks and within the last few months, and even in the new few weeks to come, many musical artists and groups have released or will release new music and new albums. Some of these include fairly new artists, while others are from artists who have been around for a while. Within these five albums, there is a large variety of different types of music and genres that can fit just about anyone’s music taste. They also range from a variety of very popular to not so well known artists. For me, I’m always looking for new music to listen to and all of these albums are great to listen to at just about any time and any place. MKTO

Image

MKTO is a newly popular musical duo from America that consists of Malcolm Kelley (left) and Tony Oller (right). Malcolm and Tony first met back in 2010, whilst filming a Nickelodeon television show called Gigantic. Ironically, their characters played best friends on the show and they later decided to join together as a music group. Before this, Malcom starred as a on ABC’s Lost and Tony appeared on several shows, one of which was Disney Channel’s As the Bell Rings. They came up with the mane MKTO, which stands for and represents their combined initials. The band also said, “it also stands for what our album kind of is: Misfit Kids and Total Outcasts – just like the kids we were in high school”.

Just last year, in January 2013, MKTO was signed to Columbia Records and released their debut single called “Thank You”. Six months later, in June 2013, they released their follow up single, and by far their most popular song called “Classic”. Later this year, on April 1, 2014, they will release their self-titled debut album with a new song they released last year in November 2013 called “God Only Knows”. All of these songs have become very popular and have a variety of different elements that make them very likeable for just about anyone.

MKTO’s music has a different and unique music style that attracts lots of different listeners. They’re music genre is a crossover between hip hop and pop and it creates an overall upbeat and fresh appeal to it that is fun and enjoyable to listen to. It’s clear that their songs have become popular for a reason, and I’m sure their album will too. Not to mention that they served and are serving as the opening act for the band Emblem3 on their summer tour across the United States. I would definitely recommend listening to their songs and you should definitely check them out!

Music and the Olympics

With the Olympics just recently taking place in Sochi, people have been talking about it quite frequently. When it comes to the Olympics, many people can associate it and recognize it by the music and theme songs they play. A big part of the Olympics is in fact the music they play and it is a crucial element. Last year, they even had music playing underneath the water that only swimmers could hear. Not to mention, it’s also very important for the Olympics to have big and amazing opening and closing ceremonies, and of course, with music. In the London 2012 Olympics, the closing ceremony was a big hit because they chose musical artists that appealed to just about everyone, ranging from One Direction to the Spice Girls.Music also becomes a big part in the Winter Olympics, when it comes to people competing having to chose songs to coincide with their routines.  Overall, music has continued and will remain a key part and very crucial to the Olympics for years and years to come.

5 Seconds of Summer

Four Australians come to America…

image (3)

Alright it sounds like the start of a cheesy joke, but this about a new band called 5 Seconds of Summer. The band  has four members: (from left to right) Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings, and Ashton Irwin.

It all started with a video. The lead vocalist and guitarist of the group, Luke Hemmings, started posting videos of him singing and playing back in 2011 for fun and friends. Soon it became more when he and othe guitarists/ vocalists — Michael Clifford and Calum Hood— joined together to make covers and videos. Missing a key element they finally picked up their drummer and vocalist Ashton Irwin creating 5 Seconds of Summer.

If you were to look them up on iTunes you wouldn’t find much (trust me I’ve tried). Most likely, you wouldn’t find anything! You could only find there Somewhere New Ep on the Australian and New Zealand versions of iTunes. However if you want to listen to them you could find them on twitter (@5sos), tumblr (http://5sos-official.tumblr.com), and Youtube (hemmo1996).

How they became big:

Well if you haven’t been around for, I don’t know, four years there is a major boy band called One Direction that helped them become international. The band 5 Seconds of Summer went on One Direction’s 2013 Take Me Home Tour.

I know most of you probably just stopped reading after the mention of the boy band (or kept reading) but 5 Seconds of Summer sounds vary from the UK band. The bands major sound influences are from Blink-182, All Time Low, Ed Sheeran, Mayday Parade, Boys Like Girls, and Busted.

What gets fans listening to 5 Seconds of Summer is there unique sound, the unity of the 5 Seconds of Summer family, and quirky, humble personalities of the boys.

Their songs are catchy and will stick with you for the rest of the day. Unlike most music today, you can actually hear real instruments and its articulate and beautiful sound. None of that dub-step, computer stuff…

However 5SOS ( 5 Seconds of Summer) fan base may be a little crazy, they love their band and other members of the 5SOS Family.

Also, the boys themselves are well, teenagers.  Their ages range from 17-19 years old and they act it! They still like to mess around and hang out like the average teen. Though they are far from average, they do not let their fame get to their head.

Try Hard to catch this band on iTunes or on their upcoming tour. It’s not Too Late to hear them before their album comes out sometime this year. And Out Of The Garage will be Beside You the whole time.

The American Authors

Image

The American Authors is a band that has recently become very popular, especially since their new single, “Best Day of My Life” was released.  The four members, (from left to right) Zac Barnett who does the vocals, James Adam Shelly who plays guitar/banjo, Dave Rublin who plays bass, and Matt Sanchez who plays the drums, all came from all different places throughout America, and eventually all met each other at Boston’s Berklee College of Music in 2006. From then on they all became great friends. Soon after, they dropped out of college and decided to pursue music and create a band. They first started off by spending their years in Boston whilst calling themselves The Blue pages. They also recorded Anthropology and Rich With Love.

A few years later, in 2010, they moved back to Brooklyn and in 2012 they changed their name to the American Authors. Their first single was “Believer” but it wasn’t nearly as popular as their second single, “Best Day of My Life”, which is currently being played on several different radio stations and it’s also in various T.V. commercials and movie trailers. As a matter of fact, I heard it on the radio today whilst driving home from school. Not to mention, as of January 2013, they have been signed to Mercury Records. The American Authors also just released their new self-titled debut album back on August 27, 2013.

What I think is so unique and likeable about the American Authors is that they tend to bring their own sound and style of music to the table and take their own experience and influences and bring them together in order to create a combination of alternative rock, pop, optimistic, fun, happy, spirited lyrics and songs. Plus, their songs are very catchy and a lot of people can relate to them. But, what I like most the band is how passionate the American Authors are about creating good and quality music that people will like, enjoy and become inspired from.  Barnett himself said, “We’re the authors of our lives, creating music from what we’ve lived, from what we hope for, from what we feel. Every day is different and like everyone, our emotions change according to our personal highs and lows and by the challenges or triumphs that affect all of us. We’re not afraid to be goofy one day and serious the next. We just want to be true to ourselves and share our stories for as long as people are willing to listen.” Also, in the band’s very own website, it says, “We express our experiences as a shared unit, through music and an agreement of sound. With lows come highs and fighting always has an end. We accept struggle and are passionate about the lives we lead. We create the music that comes naturally to us and we’re not afraid of change. We are thrilled about the present. We all have a story to tell, whether it’s audible, visual, silence or motion. We are constantly creating new moments to share.”

Overall, I think they have a lot of great qualities and I think it’s great that they write music that they care a lot about and put a lot of effort into making so it sounds good and so that not only the fans can relate to the songs, but that they can enjoy and jam along to them as well. I would definitely recommend checking them out if you haven’t already, and definitely listen to their song, “Best Day of My Life” along with all the other songs off their EP!
